MAPFRE GLOBAL RISKS FLIES INTO THE AVIATION MARKET

Oscar Becerra appointed as Aviation Underwriter to lead expansion into growing aviation market

MAPFRE GLOBAL RISKS (MGR), the MAPFRE unit that specialises in providing comprehensive insurance solutions for multinationals, today (12 September 2017) announces an exciting move into the London international aviation market with the appointment of Oscar Becerra as Aviation Underwriter.

Oscar has been hired to lead MGR’s expansion into the dynamic, fast-moving international aviation sector from London, MGR’s strategic base for international growth of its global risks business. His role will link closely with MGR’s aviation team in Madrid, who have been underwriting aviation risks for many years.

As experienced and respected aviation insurance professional, Oscar, who previously worked at Willis and before that at AON, will be in a position to offer brokers access to MGR’s significant capacity and first-class security, to cover a comprehensive range of aviation risks, including for airlines, general aviation and products and airports.

Prior to working for 8 years as a broker in London, Oscar, who will report to Greg Harris, MGR UK Director, worked for AON Mexico for 9 years, where he was a reinsurance broker and aviation department manager.

“Oscar’s hire is part of our ‘Specialty Lines’ strategy for London, developing international portfolios of business in specific sectors,” said Greg Harris. “He is an experienced aviation broker of 17 years standing and he will use his experience and expertise to bring a fresh approach to aviation underwriting in London.”

Oscar commented, saying: “Moving from broking to underwriting is a big move, but with the backing of MGR, and the team in Madrid, I am confident we can build a world-class business with a fresh partnership-based approach that will hopefully appeal to brokers and clients alike.”

The aviation sector is a key business sector for MGR, which already has a large portfolio of aviation risks underwritten from Madrid. Developing an international proposition is key for the future of the business and this strategic hire will support the continued growth and diversification of MGR’s UK portfolio.
