CSIC Uses MAPFRE Donation to Begin Research to Fight COVID-19 Pandemic

admin | 06/04/2020

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is undertaking 12 scientific projects to study the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic, the disease itself, how to prevent, contain, and treat it, the social impact, and raising awareness on an Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform (PTI) known as Salud Global/Global Health.

As part of this effort, CSIC has brought together more than 150 research groups that are working together to cover the different specializations involved in the research, from biotechnology and nanotechnology to demographics and artificial intelligence.

As reported by CSIC when announcing the creation of this platform, MAPFRE’s support, with a €5 million donation to the research center from Fundación MAPFRE, was “essential to launching the platform.”
